Why Brand Risk and Dark Web Monitoring Are No Longer Optional in 2026

Posting this because it genuinely freaked me out and I think more people should know this stuff happens quietly.
We run a mid-sized fintech, nothing huge, and honestly I thought dark web monitoring was overkill for a company our size. Then one of our vendors got breached, and three weeks later we started seeing weird login attempts on employee accounts. Turns out our domain and a batch of employee email credentials were already circulating on a forum before we even knew the vendor breach had happened.
We brought in CyberNX after that scare, mostly because a friend in another company had used them and said their team actually explains what they find instead of just dumping a report on you. Within the first couple of weeks, they flagged a fake lookalike domain someone had registered using our brand name, clearly set up for a phishing run targeting our customers. We got it taken down before it went live for any real campaign.
I'm not saying this to pitch anyone, just — if you're on the fence about whether your company "needs" this kind of monitoring, you probably already have more exposure out there than you think. Wish we'd started earlier.
